In January of 2014 I was asked to teach a stress management class to medical students from all around the world who are preparing for their Step 1, 2, or 3 Board Exams. I developed a five week Stress Management Transformation class curriculum which takes medical students through a series of exercises used to promote overall well-being, stress management, self-awareness and self-care. My mind-body approach includes guided breathing, imagery meditation, weekly Mindful Living Tips and energy work. I provide self care tools that can be used in their medical career and personal life to create balance in their lives and promote optimal health.
When students learn to manage their stress in the Stress Management Transformation Class they will:
- Enhance the quality of their life and improve their health through simple stress management techniques.
- Experience decreased tension by practicing simply breathing techniques.
- Enjoy more energy during the day and restful sleep at night with the practice of meditation.
- Explore the mind-body-spirit connection through weekly mindful living tips.
- Experience energy work creating clarity and focus in their studies, resulting in higher test scores.
The Attunement work has been a vital part of my program. It provides the students with forty-five minutes of relaxation where they are able to still their mind, calm their body, release emotional energy, with little effort. I start each Attunement with the Endocrine System to balance their life pattern and begin the process of stilling the mind. Melissa who was familiar with energy work had this to say, “Gina Kuwata is a gift. She facilitates an exchange that opens a portal to a deeper place for you within yourself. A key is turned . . . allowing breath, movement, light, color and energy into places of stagnancy. Release and remembrance combine to lend a type of reinterpretation to the moment, the past life event or the tension of your focus. You bring the intent. She stands at the gate. The dance begins.”
I then move into a Long Bone Attunement where I release energies from the lower back and shoulders. Students tend to sit for long periods of time which cause lower back pain, neck and shoulder pain. Kiemai shared with me, “I remember having incredibly severe neck pain the first week in Kansas. I even told others how it was getting so bad that even yoga didn’t help. Without even sharing that pain with you, it completely melted away after our first Attunement session. It’s like a miracle.”
I also do the Chakra Attunement releasing the emotional energy blockages. In talking with the students I began listening to their personal stories and in each story is suffering due to negative emotional energy that has become trapped causing significant physical and emotional stress. I had a student that shared with me after his Chakra Attunement he felt like he had just gone through a Spiritual Workout. After three Attunements he shared with me that he felt inner security, strength, power, balance and gratitude.
I end the Attunement with the Open-the-Head Attunement releasing energies from an over-active mind and eyes, creating clarity and focus. Laine shared with me, “I took an 8-hour practice exam yesterday and I did very very well. 🙂 It has been the first time when I have taken a test like that and felt so centered and aware of myself during the test. I was also able to remain focused on the task at hand, which is always such a struggle for me. I know that all of your amazing guidance and energy work has begun to help me release the knowledge I have stored in my brain.”
This work has truly been a blessing, the results have been astounding and I am beyond excited that I am offering Western Medicine Doctors an opportunity to experience alternative or integrative approaches to healthcare. Also, I am providing the medical students a pathway to wellness, peace, and balance!
I would like to close with one last quote from a medical student from Georgetown Medical School. ” The true value of your energy work is to keep me centered, sustaining mind-body balance. As a “Type A” medical student with high sensitivity to stress, I am keenly aware of the negative impact stress has not only on my scores, but on my strength and my outlook. For me, passing the exam with a clear mind and grounded spirit is the ultimate goal and I could not do it without energy work.”
I continue to work with the students after they leave our program, sharing long distance Attunements on the day of their Board Exam.
Blessings,
Gina Kuwata

Gina, so happy that you are using your innate talents to work with these medical students. This is a great opportunity for both you and the students! You are truly an inspiration.
Gina, I so appreciate your stress management and Attunement work with the medical students. Donna and I enjoyed meeting several of them at your home a few days ago. I was impressed with the sensitivity and openness of these intelligent, articulate young people, particularly the American students who are attending the medical school in Cuba. Because they are receiving their medical training for free, it was interesting to hear them say that after graduation the one requirement by the Cuban government and the medical school is to go forth and ‘serve’ humankind.
Loved this post Gina. Thank you for sharing. I am so pleased that Attunement is spreading its love and helping so many students.
