Embracing Discomfort

For almost two centuries, The Friends’ (Quaker) Meeting House in Portland, Maine and its surrounding grounds has been home to a faith which, at its core, has the belief that there is ‘That of God in every person’ and that ‘All people can have a direct experience of divine love, healing and guidance’. Over this last summer, the ever-expanding Attunement community in New England has convened in this space.

From June thru September Andrew Shier and I hosted monthly gatherings for those who wished to experience Attunement, honest inquiry, connection, silence and friendship. As our world and the structures we’ve known and depended upon undergo transition and transformation, the importance of remembering who we are and why we are here is at the fore. Having the opportunity to be present with those who love what we love, to speak with an open heart into a circle of friends with the Spirit of Life in our midst, helps to soothe the discomfort that accompanies deep change.

Each month, a theme would unfold as we shared and listened to each other’s current contemplation. What emerged was an opportunity to explore one’s own significance to the Whole. The ways in which we use judgement in relationships, the amazing capacity we have to align with the frequency of Being, and the Radiance which is our birthright were the substance of our exploration. It was the depth of the Attunement experience, the wordless and spacious well of peace, that was the catalyst for embracing and understanding one’s individual purpose in suffering.

The words “Embracing Your Discomfort leads to the Unfoldment of Your Destiny” were coined by Andrew as the theme for our last gathering. As we each pondered the meaning of that phrase in relation to our own journey, it became clear that compassion, for self and others, was the path available to accept and embrace suffering. In doing so, one’s purpose is clarified and life takes on deeper significance. As I write this, I’m reminded of Erin Rivers’ recent post about her grieving process; for her, the profound discomfort of loss, when held in Attunement, allowed her to access the higher frequencies of courage and strength within herself. Bearing witness for each other while being in the field of Attunement Radiation reveals the essence of what it means to really ‘belong’, to see ourselves as part of a wholeness and and a unity which is incomplete without us. Peace, joy and connection are the welcome side-effects of embracing our discomfort in this way.

Let Love Radiate!

  1. Breathing into the pain, is a lesson i have found in my practices at being the best self i can today. Attunement has brought so much new perspective to this world for me. I feel beyond delighted to share this space with everyone.

  2. As we all in our own ways are facing so much moving into consciousness that needs to be heard from the depth of Being.
Attunement allows the Angels to come forth in its purest form sending this healing balm to each on this glorious radar Screen.
