Growing in Attunement
In trying to explain Attunement to a friend, it occurred to me how hard it is to put something so elemental into words. What is Attunement for me? It is the essence of everyday. It is how I hope to breathe in and breathe out. It is a way to open the channel of my soul to my higher power, to receive blessing, to engage in the sacred art of creation, to become one with Spirit.
I was introduced to Attunement by a friend who was recovering from chemotherapy and worried about the cancer she was purging from her body. She was so sure Attunement was a healing power, she talked me into checking it out. Originally I went because I had an old high school sports injury that bothered me from time to time. While my initial Attunement did help to alleviate some pain, it also introduced me to something quite a bit better, quite a bit larger.
After taking the Attunement Initiation and five-month course I have discovered that Attunement is not a practice, or even a philosophy. It is a way of living. I have noticed subtle, but significant changes in my life. I no longer worry the way I once did. Anxiety is not my constant companion. Stress is there, but no longer shares the front seat. I find more time for myself, my passions, and my relationships. I still have a long way to go, but I am enjoying the journey.
Part of what I do to help myself grow in Attunement and spirituality is to attend the monthly Attunement groups hosted by Chris and Donna Jorgensen through Heartland Attunement in Kansas City, Missouri. People from all over the Kansas City area converge for an hour and a half to share a short Attunement, a guided meditation that focuses on some positive aspect of spiritual growth, then a longer Attunement. At the end of the evening, we focus our attention together, sometimes toward a troubled region in the world, sometimes in support of a world figure, but always in a way that benefits our planet in some way. Because my profession is teaching, these evenings are a way for me to practice Attunement, both in giving and receiving. I enjoy the opportunity of sharing Attunement with a variety of people, and I love the relationships I am forging in this community. What I have found is that people who share Attunement are invariably some of the most wonderful people I have met.
